Built in 1988 in the ruggedly beautiful terrain of Rancho
Santa Fe, one of San Diego’s most prestigious communities, The Farms Golf Club,
a private, member-owned equity club, was created and built for golf
enthusiasts…golfers serious in their commitment to the game and its historical
In 1999, when the
members assumed ownership of the Pete, Perry, and Alice Dye golf course and the
magnificent clubhouse designed by Robert Altevers in 1988, they made a
commitment to maintain the course and clubhouse in pristine condition. One of
the first initiatives was to improve the playability and quality of the golf
course. In 2000, after conducting a nationwide search for an architect, The
Farms golf course underwent major renovation under the guidance of architect
John Fought and his associate, PGA tour professional Tom Lehman.
In addition to rebuilding a total of twenty-one greens, three of which are for
practice, the club added a state-of-the-art irrigation system, created an
outstanding practice facility and driving range, moved and rebuilt many tee
boxes, added several water features, re-contoured a number of fairways and
landscaped nearly thirty-five acres with beautiful plantings. The end result is
a San Diego private golf course that remains challenging, but is fair to
golfers of all abilities.
